Giant Pianos On the Beach |
|
|
Three huge wooden objects have appeared on the beaches
of Schiermonnikoog, a Dutch island. They are shaped like pianos,
although they look more like they're shipwrecked vessels the sea has
brought ashore by chance. However, there isn't anything of random in
this striking sight. It's actually an installation to promote another
edition of the famous classical music festival put together by
Schiermonnikoog, that will take place during the month of October and
which, this year, will be dedicated to Russian composers.

The author of this work of art is, as of this moment, unknown. The
festival organization hasn't said a word about it and it isn't very
important, anyway. What really matters is the impact and the serene,
but effective, advertisement the sculptures have been able to get
across. But, let us not forget its aesthetic side. The land art,
or landscape art, has always given us works of breathtaking beauty and
these three pianos are no exception, emerging from the water and the
dunes, and cutting through the blue sky.
